As we prepare to bring 2012 to closure, we clearly see that it is far from over. As we are in the middle of planning for the Waimanalo Makahiki, and the beginning of plans for our 4th annual Hali’i (Christmas)Kalikimaka 2012 community fest. This year a new chapter has begun for Makahiki, as a new committee and leadership begins the process of building the event to even greater proportions. With the loss of a major funding source last year, it has taken new mana and mana’olana, to plan for Makahiki 2012.
A much more committed group of community stakeholders have taken charge, and it is taking shape very rapidly. Scheduled for November 17, 2012 at the Bellows Beach Park, Ho’olu’a has taken on a higher profile role in assisting with the development of this project, through our affiliations with Partners in Development Foundation, Na Pono No Na Ohana, Castle Medical Center, Hawaii Centers for Independent Living, the Windward Homeless Coalition, Blanche Pope Elementary and Waimanalo school in partnership with Hui Malama O Ke Kai, Healthy Hawaii Initiative, KSBE, Hawaiian Civic Club of Waimanalo, Bellows AFS-Waimanalo, USAF/PACAF Hickam-Pearl Harbor Base and MCBHawaii and a host of other Waimanalo community groups and families.
We have been blessed in this year of 2012. We continue to pule for the energy needed from Ke Akua to face all challenges, with his Aloha and Malama. We are also thankful for the many families and children of Waimanalo, who make all of this pono.
